Fall Track Registration information
Thursday, May 13, 2010
Track Parents (Future Cross Country Parents): St. Anne will begin the Fall Sports registration process during track season, but the note below lets you know the dates for all fall sports signups as well. I hope your kids will join the Cross Country team and bring a few friends. We officially accept 4th-8th graders, but have had a few 2nd and 3rd graders join us as a part of the running club. Coach Bob VanDeVelde and I have set a goal of 30+ kids, but most importantly is that we have a strong standing in the league. The cost is $100 for in parish/school and $125 for out of parish participants.

The Varsity event for CC is a 3K or 2 mile. The JV event is a 2K or 1.2 mile. We can send as many kids out to run in each event, but the first 5 from each team score the team points. We practice as a team and go to local parks (Eckstein, Halmich, Delia, Civic Center, WCC, or Dodge Park, Metro Beach or Stoney Creek) to do our running. We play running games and sometimes run to 7-11 for Slurpees or for ice cream. Bob and I either run or bike along side the kids so they are well supervised. We have had several parents and/or siblings who are avid runners join our practice sessions as well. Last year our kids participated in the Warren Mott Alumni Challenge 5K, the Peach Festival 5K, the Roseville Big Bird 4K, the Hanson Running Store Festival of Lights 4 mile, and the Belle Isle New Years Eve 4 Mile. Many of our kids took age-group awards and each earned the cool shirts that are customary to running and racing.

Our season officially begins in mid-August and goes through mid-October. Most meets are on Saturday mornings, but some were moved to week nights due to festival and holidays. Double sporting is allowed during CC and track season, so if your child plays football, soccer, cheer, volleyball, or golf he/she can run CC if their schedule and/or grades permit.

Please help us create a strong CC team for St. Anne. If you should have any questions please feel free to contact Coach Sandy Buchanan at sandybuchanan@sbcglobal.net or call her cell phone 586-925-0597.
